TASK 2: IETM Specifications Migration
Final Interactive Electronic Technical Manual Migration/Integration Requirements Plan (January 1997)
This report was prepared in support of the United States (U.S.) Department of Defense (DoD) Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support (CALS) Integrated Data Environment (IDE) project. The purpose of this report is to address the core requirements for developing a plan for migrating the U.S. DoD Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) specifications, MIL-M-87268, MIL-D-87269, and MIL-Q-87270 to a non-defense standard or specification. This report is a follow up to the "IETM Standardization Migration Alternative and Strategy Report" and essentially expands on the primary migration alternative recommendation that is standardization through the Standard for the Exchange of Product model data (STEP), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 10303.

Standardization Migration Alternative and Strategy Report (October 21, 1996)
This report was generated in support of the DoD CALS IDE project. The subject of this report is the identification and analysis of the alternatives associated with the migration of the DoD IETM specifications, MIL-M-87268, MIL-D-87269, and MIL-Q-87270 to a non-defense standard or specification. This analysis is a direct result of the June 29, 1994 memorandum, issued by Secretary of Defense William J. Perry. Within this memo, "DoD Policy on the Future of Military Specification (MILSPEC)", radical policy changes are mandated, resulting in a high degree of concern (and in some cases outright panic) in both the Government and commercial sectors. In addition, these changes affect more than 30,000 military specifications and standards, generated by over 100 preparing activities.
