Numerous other repository initiatives have been developing with limited success or limited scope. It is believed that these activities can be gathered into a single global repository in the future.
7.1 Extended Planning Annex
The Extended Planning Annex (EPA) has developed the Environmental Data Registry (EDR). (See http://www.epa.gov/edr.) The EPA seriously considered the BSR, but has since separated itself from any involvement with the group.
7.2 Health Level 7 Reference Information Model
The Health Level 7 (HL7) Reference Information Model (RIM) is intended solely to support the requirements of HL7 messaging and therefore any repository is specific to function. However, it remains of substantial interest because of its future importance in healthcare messaging generally and because HL7 has developed an object/attribute structure comparable to that developed in TC251.28
7.3 TC251 Object Registration
A registration mechanism and supported software were developed by a project team in 1995: ENV 12537 Medical Informatics - Registration of Information Objects used for EDI in healthcare.29
