ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF DELIVERY OPTIONS


Table 3-2 lists some of the comparative advantages and disadvantages of TDP delivery as paper, raster, vector or processable data files.

- Already a deliverable form

- Can be copied and distributed easily

- Files can be compressed to reduce size

- Easily edited, maintained, updated.

- Electronic indexing, filing, and archiving.

- Small file size compare to Raster equivalents.

- Fileinformation compatibility between editing, sending, recieving systems

- files contain Intelligent Data

- Easily edited maintained, and updaed.

- Electronic indexing, filing, and archiving

- Already a deliverable form.

- Files accept generic text and raster data from other sources

Disadvantages

- Cannot be edited or changed

- Not importable(must be scanned to digitize).

- Bulky filing system.

- Originals can be easily lost or desroyed.

- Originals deteriorate over time.

- Editing is extremly tedious

- Relatively large file sizes

- Induced errors from incompatibilities of hardware even when using an agreed standard.

- Raster quality dependant on original and hosen pels/inch standard

- Raster quality also dependant on accuray of equipment and method used to scan original image

- Not directly importable into documents, must be converted to a raster format.

- international standards not fully developed.

- Drawing data limited to imported raster images
