NATO CALS Working with MEADS

MEADS (Meadium Extended Air Defence System) is currently in a transition phase between the Project Definition Phase (PDF) and the Design and Development Phase (D&DP). MEADS is planning to use a three year Risk Reduction Phase before entering a full D&D phase. A RFP is due to be sent out August/September 99, in order to cover Prime contractor involvement in this phase, and to prepare for the D&D Phase. A six-month negotiation period is planned for this contract after RFP release.

During a visit in August 99, NCO reviewed the text in the RFP. The RFP already included a CITIS framework and an extended Configuration Management activity, but without much definition of required CITIS information content. The IM Working Group will develop the requirements for Product Information, under the specified CITIS framework. NAMEADSMA have requested NCO involvement in the Group that will also include participants from Industry.

In response to NCO briefings NAMEADSMA has agreed to establish an Information Management Working Group The aim for this group is to develop a TLBM, Through Life Information Management Strategy and a TLIM Plan for MEADS for incorporation into the contract, before signature. The composition and work program have yet to be defined.
