Many large U.S. firms are expressing interest in accelerating migration to United Nations EDIFACT standards for international data interchange. As a result of the growing acceptance of UN/EDIFACT standards within Europe, Japan, South Korea, NATO, Australia and other countries, representatives of the U.S. DoD and Federal procurement organizations have intensified efforts to migrate business functionality pertaining to purchase orders to EDIFACT. There is now a need to trial test the UN/EDIFACT ORDERS message to validate the adequacy of the message against actual requirements.
